This very special limited edition pen uses the traditional Japanese craft technique 'Temenuri', consisting of a translucent lacquer 'Suki Urushi' painted over the special base-colour 'Urushi'. This process causes the base colour to change to a unique deeper hue, whilst the glossy sheen of the finish will naturally lighten and mature throughout the life of the pen.
The craftsman Mr Koushu Nishihara is from a family of 'Butsudan' Maki-e artists in Hiroshima. Mr Nishihara mastered the art of traditional Japanese Urushi Lacquer Art during his training at the Wajima Urushi Lacquer Institute of Art in Ishikawa and has been working on Maki-e fountain pen designs for Sailor since 2002.
The Tamenuri pen is the seventh of only 50 pieces available worldwide. The pen features Mr Koushu Nishihara's signature and the edition number hand-painted in gold onto the barrel.
The pen uses an oversize 21 carat gold nib. The remarkable qualities of this unique design include the absence of a clip.
Presented in a highly polished gloss black wooden box with cashew coating overlaid with gold lettering. Also includes a pen pouch fashioned from real silk, the same used to create tradition Kimono wear, with a clasp made from old smoked bamboo.
