Description
The elaborately adorned Lindau Gospels were used in processions and displayed on alters to inspire awe in early Christian onlookers. The original design is believed to have been created near Salzburg between 750 and 800 AD and was an extremely opulent binding, using gilt, silver, enamel and precious jewels.
